Information about High School Endorsements

Why does my student have to select an endorsement?

Starting with 2018’s graduating class, the state legislature declared high school endorsements necessary for graduates of the Texas Foundation Graduation Plan. By requiring students to focus their course of study, students attain the knowledge and skills necessary to become college and career ready. This benefits not only students, but Texas’ workforce and our economic future.

The Texas Graduation Plan requires each student to complete core classes (like math, science, social studies, and English) and also to complete courses that lead to an endorsement. Endorsements are paths to help students graduate ready to go into college or a job they want with some specific skills! Upon entering ninth grade, Texas 8th grade students are now asked to choose an endorsement.

The five endorsement areas are Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); Business and Industry; Public Services; Arts and Humanities; and Multidisciplinary Studies. The earned Endorsement will be reflected on the student’s official transcript at the completion of their high school career.
