Congratulations to the McAllen ISD Counselors of the Year for 2024! Aimee Nunez of Lamar Academy (Secondary school winner) and Celeste Martinez of Castaneda Elementary (Elementary school winner) were honored at a special ceremony held Feb. 19, 2024. Nunez is pictured at right and Martinez is at left.
"We don't do the work we do for awards but it does feel really special to be doing the work that I do with McAllen ISD," Nunez said. "It's just an honor to work with kids every day. I'm just happy to be doing what I love."
Martinez said the award meant a lot to her and her colleagues.
"I became a counselor because I wanted to be a servant leader to students and to be there for them," Martinez said. "This award is, not just my award, but it's for my staff, my principal and my colleagues. We have a great support system."
