The McAllen ISD Board of Trustees gave the green light to advertise for a permanent superintendent following a Board Workshop held September 11.

The Board’s consensus was to fill the position this fall. Before that happens, the Board of Trustees want to gather feedback from the public.

“The role of the Superintendent is pivotal in shaping the educational trajectory of our district,” Board President Debbie Crane Aliseda said. “This is not just a position, but a commitment to the future of every student in our schools. We are steadfast in our belief that the voices of our community, our dedicated employees, and most importantly, our students, are vital in this selection process. Their input will ensure that we choose a leader who truly resonates with our shared vision and values for the future of education in McAllen ISD.”

The position will be advertised from September 12-24 before applications are reviewed, interviews are conducted, and a lone finalist is chosen. By law, once a lone finalist is identified, the Board must wait 21 days before negotiating the contract.

The plan is to have a superintendent in place between October 2-27.

The search will be statewide in nature although the Board did not rule out the possibility of applicants from out of state applying as well. The school board will be spearheading the superintendent search process, with the law firm O’Hanlon, Demerath & Castillo assisting in the administrative aspects to ensure utmost confidentiality. Selected applicants will interview for the position with the Board.

To paint a picture of the ideal candidate, the district is planning a survey to give the public a voice in the selection process.

Dr. Rosalba De Hoyos became McAllen ISD’s Acting Superintendent on July 27 following the recommendation of outgoing Superintendent Dr. J.A. Gonzalez.  Dr. De Hoyos title became Interim Superintendent on August 25 after the Board officially accepted Dr. Gonzalez’ resignation.
