Fleet Maintenance

School bus in the shop

The McAllen Independent School District operates over 90 school buses traveling more than 1 million miles each year. Student safety is our first and utmost priority.  McAllen ISD Transportation incorporates a preventive maintenance program which consists of fully maintaining each vehicle to manufacturer specifications, as well as meeting or exceeding state and federal inspection requirements.

McAllen ISD Transportation’s preventive maintenance program includes the following:

  • Daily, 20-point safety inspection by the driver.

  • Weekly inspection of belts, hoses, and fluid levels.

  • Defects found as a result of the above inspections will be repaired immediately if safety related; otherwise, defects will be scheduled for repair at the next preventive maintenance inspection.

  • Preventive maintenance inspections are performed on each vehicle by an authorized service technician every 5,000 miles or 90 days, whichever comes first.

  • Manufacturer recommendations will be followed or exceeded on all scheduled maintenance.

  • Annual, 230-point bumper-to-bumper vehicle inspection

McAllen ISD standards for vehicle safety and road worthiness are high and uncompromising. We pride ourselves in providing our students and staff with the best equipment.
