In a continuous effort to promote health and wellness, McAllen ISD is all set to participate in the annual It’s Time Texas Community Challenge!

This health challenge is statewide. Simply by using a smart phone, participants can earn points for daily health and exercise activities.

Participants can log onto www.ittcommunitychallenge.com to register. The contest begins Monday, January 9 and runs through March 5. Participation is free.

The district has finished at the top of the state standings in the Medium School District category each of the past two years.

“On behalf of the Administration and our School Board, I’d like to encourage everybody to take part,” McAllen ISD Superintendent Dr. J.A. Gonzalez said. “We are encouraging everybody to work hard and take care of themselves. Without our health, we have nothing, so please take care of yourself, exercise and let’s work hard to win this competition again.”

Last year, McAllen ISD earned nearly 2.4 million points. In addition, the City of McAllen took first in its category (Large Community) for the fifth straight year with more than 3.76 million points. Points can accumulate simultaneously for a school, school district and city.

The It’s Time Texas Community Challenge is a statewide effort to improve health and wellness by pitting communities and school districts against each other in a friendly competition. Points are earned through exercise and healthy eating. The ultimate goal is to instill healthy living habits in state citizens. Nearly 300 communities across Texas participated in last year’s challenge.
